Mr. Sandeep Shrestha, Scientific Advisor to the Biodiversity Conservancy Nepal and Assistant Professor at the Kathmandu University was awarded with a Faculty Research Grant by the University Grant Commission of Nepal. Mr. Shrestha will be utilizing this fund to study the impact of climate change on the hydrogeochemistry of Ponkar glacier in Manang district of Nepal. This study will generate baseline information on the various physio-chemical parameters of meltwater draining from the Ponkar glacier. Such information will help to establish a baseline for future monitoring as well as assess the overall water quality of this glacier. The findings from this study will also provide insights into the impact of climate change on hydro-chemical regime of the Ponkar glacier.
