Snake Conservation via Education
Snake
bite is a common but aggravated problem in the Terai of Nepal. As a
consequence, communities in Terai generally tend to have negative
attitudes towards snakes and often kill them in retaliation and
animosity. Lack of awareness, undoubtedly, has posed a major
constraint to conservation of snakes in Terai including Rupandehi
district which is one of the areas with higher snake bite rates in
Nepal. As a consequence, snake conservation has largely been
neglected. Thus, ensuring their long-term survival necessitates
support from multitude of stakeholders who can directly and
indirectly contribute to this cause. This project aims to address
this awareness-gap, starting from the Rupandehi district, by
implementing a holistic approach to increase awareness among these
target groups regarding snake conservation using multitude of
Communication, Education and Public Awareness tools.
