Although Muggers (Crocodylus palustris) are considered
threatened and are restricted to few isolated populations in Nepal within the
protected areas including the Bardia National Park (BNP), it is surprising that
the current conservation status of the Mugger in BNP still remains largely
unknown. The overarching purpose of this study is to assess the conservation
status of Mugger populations in the BNP, and the secondary purpose is to
promote Mugger conservation via education, trainings, and outreach programs. To
accomplish aforementioned objectives, we will conduct population survey,
characterize Mugger habitat, assess current threats as well as conduct
conservation education and trainings.
