The purpose of this study is to
assess conservation status of the critically endangered Chinese pangolins (Manis
pentadactyla) in the central mid-hill regions of Nepal. We will conduct
surveys to assess pangolin population size, characterize their habitat including ant (primary food source for pangolins) mounds and identify actual and potential threats to pangolings. Additionally, we will also
systematically collect pangolin scats which will be used for their genetic
characterization in the future. This study will generate previously
non-existent baseline information on ecological attributes of pangolins in the various
districts in central mid-hills of Nepal which will facilitate designing and
implementation of conservation programs for pangolins
